My rather obvious obsession is rooted in my being a child of the fifties and the elegant, emancipated women of New York City. And, like so many of my fellow smoke lovers, I felt insulated from society in general due to my love of women smokers. Actually, isolated would be a better word.
I spent most of my working life as a firefighter before happenstance connected me with one other smoke fetishist. I had been working on catching bright smoke with idiot grade or borrowed cameras until then, and managed to catch at least some good work. But, having found someone else.. At last, I wasn't alone. Two years later the Wall Street Journal did a story on the work Mike Williams of Smoke Signals and I were doing. Front page no less.
That is the origin of CoherentLight in a nutshell. Unfortunately, a burglary in 2006 crashed the biz I had built. I still have hopes but the studio and resources that let me push the envelope on smoke are gone... I'll keep trying and see what I can do. In the meantime, enjoy the work I was able to accumulate 'back in the day.'
Sincerely
Ed
